For my most recent project for my blogging class, we were told to answer these questions.
Describe what your business will do or a business already does?
Are there any unique features or benefits of your product or service?
Are any additional product or services slated to the future?

The business I chose for the project is Marie Claire Magazine. As a fashion magazine it withholds many of the same features as most magazines of fashion. Except, a few key differences.

The unique features of this specific magazine are extremely significant to it's success. This magazine goes deeply into detail of whats on trend for the season their magazines fall in. There is a magazine released for every month of the year. But what magazine doesn't do that. What sets this magazine aside from the rest, is the personal aspect they base their articles off of and layouts of fashion for the seasons. Marie Claire does not base their findings on just one body type. Yes, there are editorial spreads, but those fancy shoots are balanced with personal advice to the everyday woman. Specifically in their most recent magazine released, they feature women who risk their lives everyday to save the lives of others as well as save the environment. The article features pictures of women in their work attire rather than dressing them up to look like what they are not. This feature is meant to look at women in a different way than ever before. Yes, equality has always been topic of discussion when it comes to magazines. "Too sexy", "stick thin", "photoshopped" are a few of the comments I alone have heard around my school. Of course some photos may be touched up for advertisement purposes, but they are also one of the only magazines I've come across to publicly feature women and what they love about themselves. Every Magazine their is a spread of women throughout the United States, showing these women's style as well as a quote of one thing they love about themselves. This alone shows pride in young women coming up in the fashion world as well as society in a positive way.

Future wise, what's featured in Marie Claire changes every month. Product, articles, fashion spreads, what's on trend, will always change. This magazine will always evolve positively and I believe will continue to encourage the everyday woman.

In class, we were told to talk about on our blog what the pros and cons would be if we were to own or own business. I personally never thought owning my own business would be something attainable, but as I conjured the idea in my head these are the conclusions I came to.

Pros:
  • You have complete creative freedom
  • You are your own boss as well and the boss of everyone working for your business
  • You are in charge of a dress code or lack there of
  • You are entitled to have whatever sort of schedule you choose
  • You have the freedom to plan your vacations when you choose rather than having "leave" from work
  • There is no limit of sucess
  • There is no limit to the income you'll have
  • You would have a very respected reputation from owing your own successful business
  • The environment you work in is your choice
  • It would be less stress once your business is steady not to have to worry about "higher ups"
Cons:
  • It's possible your employees may not agree with your ideas at all
  • You may have countless encounters with poor employees
  • It may be more of a hassle making sure all your employees are in appropriate attire
  • Because it's your business, you may have to approve and deal with more work than a vacation would allow
  • Your income may be poor for more than you plan
  • Statistics for privately owned businesses is, there is a 50/50 chance said business will fail in the first year
  • If you don't have enough experience,  the extreme amount of responsibility could be too much
  • If a business plan or customer deal goes wrong, it's on you, your business, your problem

Converse Kid

Officially pulling out the shorts! Toasty weather is finally here in Victoria! Paired these black high wasted shorts with a black, purple and turquoise blouse, a studded blazer, converse of course and my every so popular trench coat. Oh and floral tights to match the theme! *triangleflowers

The Plum Leopard Army

Forgot to snap some shots of my oufit yesterday, but I finally decided to wear a vest I've had for too long and not worn enough! Hard to see but its a motorcycle style military vest, with star badges on the shoulders. I paired this lovely thing, with a leopard long sleeve, faux suede high waisted pants, my denim motorcycle jacket, and my brown tassled loafers. Oh! and finally decided to try my new plum lipstick from NYC cosmetic brand and painted my nails to match.

Leather Jeans

First day back at school after the weekend, I had a illustrator class than my class and i galavanted off to Beacon Hill Park to sketch and grab some ice cream! Anyways on that sunny Monday,  I decided to celebrate by wearing this black high waisted mini skirt i finally fit again, and paired it with a long sleeve denim shirt i embelished with leather, lace, and studs. Lastly i wore, my leopard print tights, multi-coloured trench and my yellow and black checkered sneakers i recently found again ! *yaytooldnewshoes

Matte Stripes and Daisies

So, my obssession still continues with Kate Moss's Red Matte Lipstick. For an excuse to wear it more, I complimented this lip colour with a red and white striped long sleeve (that I made into a crop top), a daisy skirt that I made a couple years ago, as well as plain tights with red knee high socks and my reversible rain coat.

Baseball Jackets? Yes!

So I found this vintage baseball jacket from the year I was born and I love it ! I paired it with my leopard booties, lined high waisted trousers, my black Arctic Monkeys t-shirt and an off white scarf! Oh! and my lovely bowler hat ! All thirfted. *thiftjunky

 HUG YOUR SEWING MACHINE

So for one of my assignments in class, my teacher said we have to make a blog post about fashion globally, nationally, and locally, as well as past present and future.

As many may know or not know, since the beginning of fashion, most clothing was used to show status. Until the first sewing machine was invented, all clothing was custom and not many people had more than one outfit. But the invention of the sewing machine changed all that. For the most part, most styles these days are similar weather it be a Marc Jacobs polo from Stinky Rat or a polo from American Eagle. Unless you know designer or quality of stitch, a lot of clothing today can be mistaken as the same. With the invention of the sewing machine, the view on clothing as a royalty began to change, slowly but surely many became equal because it was easier and cheaper to make your own clothes, that is if you could afford a sewing machine once they went global which most households could. The first sewing machine was invented in the 1830s and for the record this is not an accurate picture. With the internet you never know if its accurate on the time of invention and if some of the first sewing machines were even documented with film. Anyways, I thought this was inspiring and extremely interesting to find out.

GRUNGE AWAY

For present and locally I realized for the most part, grunge is still widely embraced! Living on an island and with university and college students crawling everywhere grunge is still around and going strong! Personally  I love the style, and so it seams many do as well. It's classic but also effortless, definitely coffee shop approved! This pictures doesn't necessarily show much variety but that's pretty much what grunge stands for, simple. I think the style interesting but not showy or trying way too hard, what do you think?

 SPRING/SUMMER 2013

Here's a quick look at whats on trend for this years spring/summer season! I'll post my about whats on trend and what will be on trend but for project purposes, here's a summary! Monocromatic and Florals meets sleek gladiator? Yes please ! For the most part, because spring and especially summer the weather gets too warm to extremely accessorize. But this year the runways of New York showed collections with style but also simplicity so globally, nationally in Canada and locally in BC even Victoria girls can make a statement comfortably. Now that's fashion.

Just like Velvet?
So I love Kate Moss's New Matte Lipstick line! I'm obsessed! Oh and I'm particularly stoked that somehow after getting my wisdom teeth pulled, I dropped down a size so i finally fit the checkered skirt above. I paired that lovely checkered skirt with a black v-neck I made into a crop top, with fishnet tights, knee high socks and my reversible raincoat. Oh yes and I wore Kate Moss's matte Lipstick. *velvetlips

Tribal What!?

So it seems quite a few of my posts include mentioning The Patch but for good reason! This amazing skirt is one of them. Not one for vintage stores, I like thrift, but what can you do when you come across a good find! Anyways, I paired this mulicoloured skirt with a turtleneck I made into a crop top, plain black tights and one inch heeled black and gold loafers.

Plaid, Dot, Oh Yeah and LEOPARD

My lovely classmate Morgan (creator of threadtheorybusinessoffashion.wordpress.com) came in with a couple clothes for the girls in my class that use to be her great-grandma's. And guess who got her marvelous and comfortable green and beige plaid blazer? THIS GIRL! I paired this wonderful blazer with a tranparent off white button up with a yellow tank top underneath, army green high waisted shorts, as well as polka-dot tights and my first pair of loafers ever! They are comfier than comfy. *iwearyourgrandma'sclothes

Are you on trend?

So finally looked through the magazines I got almost 2 months ago and look who's on trend for the new hair cut? Well I'm glad I waited to look through said magazines even though I should have because they're old but I had no influence yet am on track!? Fine by me! Oh and Vogue scandalous photoshoot with girl on girl action? Vogue? Gay friendly? Only makes me love it more! *Equalityinallworlds

Giraffes & Dwarfs

In school, our last project of second semester was to design and create a blazer. I bought this giraffe fabric from my Vancouver trip and the faux leather ive saved for a couple years. I chose to do my blazer with a shawl collar and navy blue lining, as well as an embroidered elbow patch of giraffe print. I paired this finished piece of mine with a navy blue and orange polkadot button up and navy blue high waisted pants with a braided belt. My only accessories are two of my newest rings, fangs from ARDENES and the 7 dwarfs from Cinderella's Wardrobe.

Colour the Beatles

Who knew such a vest existed? Found this odd apparel the last time I went thrift shopping and I love it! I paired this vest with my grey Beatles shirt, my black and white fitted blazer and my new-ish multicolour trench coat I got at a thrift store the day after I got my wisdoms out! Definitely a good way to lift my spirits. *firsttrench

Houndstooth Snakes
Purchased my first pair of DC's, and of course they look nothing like normal DC shoes! But! They're waterproof and now that they're broken in, they are extremely comfortable! I paired these brown babies with my new houndstooth high waisted pleated pants and my snake print v-neck top from WINNERS. Oh and my new sweater I got from one of the last garage sale I went to.
